Honey and Gall. By Llewelyn Powys. Little Blue Book #534, published by Haldeman-Julius in Kansas, 1924. 63 pagesThis would appear to be the First American Edition of these autobiographical essays by the author and traveler, gathered together at this date by Haldeman-Julius from various English and American periodicals and newspapers and put into book form. There is a tiny paper chip to the bottom left hand corner of the front wrapper. The Times Literary Supplement (London) for 8 February 1974. John Cowper's life and work are the main feature essay/review (unsigned, as were all essays in the weekly at this date) of this number and his portrait adorns the weekly's cover. It's headed: "The Magician and His Multiverse: The True Nature of John Cowper Powys." See photo #4. This following the publication of Glen Cavaliero's John Cowper Powys: Novelist; of John A. Brebner's The Demon Within: A Study of John Cowper Powys; of Jeremy Hooker's Writers of Wales: John Cowper Powys; and the reprinting of John Cowper's novels Weymouth Sands (with an introduction by Angus Wilson) and Rodmoor. 

The New York Review of Books for 28 March 1985. The able English literary critic and teacher John Bayley reviews new Harper Colophon editions of John Cowper's Wolf Solent (with an introduction by Robertson Davies) and of Weymouth Sands (with an introduction by James Purdy). Includes a newly drawn caricature of Powys by artist David Levine

The Times Literary Supplement (London) for 19 May 1995. John Bayley opens this weekly issue with a feature essay in review of the Morine Krissdottir edited Petrushka and the Dance: The Diaries of John Cowper Powys, 1929-1939 and of the Oliver Marlow Wilkinson and Christopher Wilkinson edited The Letters of John Cowper Powys to Frances Gregg (volume 1). Includes a color reproduction of Miriam Bryan's bust of Powys, who also adorns the cover of this number. See photo #5.  

The Times Literary Supplement (London) for 3 January 1997. P.J. Kavanagh dedicates his "Bywords" weekly feature (1/2 of a full oversize page) to detailing the history of John Cowper's A Glastonbury Romance, and why some readers consider it to be a "masterpiece."
