A really good introduction with rich purple-plum petals, unfurling from silken buds and maturing into spectacular bowl-shaped flowers on blue green stems. Reaching a flowering height of 90 - 100cm, the bold colouring is a great addition to most gardening schemes as seen at Chelsea 2022 planted with Verbascum, Salvia and Alchemilla.
The flowers are followed by very attractive and iconic poppy seed heads which can be left to self seed around the garden for next years flowers. Alternatively the seed heads can by cut and dried for dried floral designs.Easily raised from seeds and loved by bees and hoverflies there is lots to like!
Prepare the seed bed by forking over and removing any weeds, then rake over to form a fine tilth. For a natural looking border scatter the seed by hand in several directions to ensure good even coverage. Lightly rake to cover seed. Sow at approx. 2 grams per square metre or yard.
For a spectacular display of flowers in late spring we recommend direct sowing onto bare soil where they are to flower from August to September.
For a later summer display sow the seeds between March and May direct onto bare soil.
Alternatively seed can be sown in trays or pots.
