A porcelain plate with a picture of the USS Maine monument located in Havana's Malecon, is exhibited on a table at the US Interests Section chief's official residence in Havana, Cuba. The monument was erected in 1925 in honor of U.S. sailors who died in 1898 when the USS Maine ship sank off the Havana Harbor. The years since have been unkind to the twin-columned monument, and to U.S.-Cuba ties. But while relations between Washington and Havana remain in deep freeze, the monument, at least, is now getting a facelift.
