Kawasaki's popular GPZ900 model was introduced in 1983 as Kawasaki's flagship model. It debuted in Europe under the name GPZ900R and in the United States under the name Ninja.
The basic form has not changed significantly since its debut. The sharp, edgy front end and the smooth, straight line extending to the rear have been skillfully refined while retaining the image of the air-cooled GPZ, and Kawasaki's first liquid-cooled, DOHC engine is clearly visible in the center.
The design and high speed performance of the GPZ are the reasons for its long popularity.
