Very pretty piece with tons of character - - its beauty and heft must be seen and felt to be truly appreciated.
Chinese porcelain washer glazed in iconic bluish-white glaze. Classic hexagonal shape is outlined and accented on three sides in deep cobalt blue floral/leaf scroll design. This vintage piece (circa 1960-70) is a masterful handmade reproduction honoring the ancient craft.
Unique placement of maker's mark in center of plate face, rather than on backside (reason unknown). This area is also slightly convex, indicating it was designed to accommodate a more elaborate footed-type vessel, and facilitate drainage.
Translucent top glaze is thick and strong on raised rim and underside, but inside face is slightly less glossy owing to years of use and mineral deposits from water runoff; its watertight properties remain intact.
