Antique "Rushville" Walnut Side Chair w/Fabric & Caned Seat

Gorgeous, solid wood, antique side chair made by, "Rushville Furniture Co." of Rushville, IN. It's made of solid walnut and has beautifully turned legs and stretchers, carvings in the backrest. Notice the half-circle and egg-shaped details at the top of the front legs. I'm guessing that these are thin pieces of another type of wood or the same type of wood stained a different color and then inset into the wood to make it look like it was painted on. Truly a sign of remarkable craftsmanship!

Originally, the chair had only a caned seat. However, someone added a fabric-covered, wooden board on top. The caning looks to be fully intact but sagging, so perhaps the former owner thought it was easier to add a top than to have the caning tightened?

Our carpenter inspected the chair from top to bottom, and didn't need to make any repairs or reinforce anything as the chair is strong and sturdy.

Considering it's age, it's in great condition with only the typical nicks and scratches that you would expect to find on an old, used chair. The fabric is fully intact and fairly clean. There are no breaks, gouges, rot, or warp. Even its finish is in great shape. The chair is ready for another lifetime of service.
