Fantastic OLD piece that reminds me of a Clarice Cliff design or reminiscent of Max Leauger with stylized trees and polychrome bright colors. 

I believe the wood is maple which was painstakingly made with a very unusual shape.

Given the condition of this it was a prized possession. NO damage issues or signs of abuse. The paint has some to be expected scuffs but bright and defined. No cracks chips, crazing or repairs.

I'm not sure of the purpose as it has no odors residue or staining on the inside from either biscuits, tobacco or Tea cannister. Whatever the purpose (except being gorgeous) it was masterfully made.
