How to Spot a Reformulation

If the bottle is distributed via Chicago, IL or Florida, it is a reformulation. Be sure that the distributor’s label or box reads: “Tuvaché Inc. New York, N.Y.

If Yardley of London, Coty, or Hypoluxe appear on the bottle or box, it is a reformulation.

If only the name Tuvaché OR Jungle Gardenia appears on the distributor’s label or box, but not BOTH (Tuvaché AND Jungle Gardenia) then it is a reformulation.

Tuvaché Jungle Gardenia has a Complex History with Multiple Reformulations

1932: Bernadine Angus founds Tuvaché and launches the original Jungle Gardenia fragrance.

1948: Bernadine Agnus dies.

1960s: Apparently, sometime during the latter 1960s, Bernadine’s husband, Harold, dies and Tuvaché is sold to and merged with Germaine Monteil.

1969: British American Tobacco (BAT) purchases Germaine Monteil.

1970: Germaine Monteil is consolidated under BAT’s subsidiary, British American Cosmetics.

1985: Beecham cosmetics purchases Germaine Monteil. Tuvaché remains under Germaine Monteil.

1986: Tuvaché Jungle Gardenia is reformulated and distributed via Yardley of London (of Chicago, IL), a subsidiary of British American Tobacco. The retail box carries the “Yardley of London” distributor’s designation.

1989: Tuvaché is sold to Coty (Jovan division) and Jungle Gardenia is discontinued.

1990s: Coty briefly brings back Jungle Gardenia (box/distributor’s label says Coty), only it is the 1986 reformulation. This fragrance is unpopular and discontinued.

1999: The Tuvaché trademark is acquired by Irma Shorell of Orlando, FL.

2004: GMBH purchases the rights to the Jungle Gardenia name, but not the Tuvaché trademark.

2008: Arthur H. Garceau (of Hollywood, FL) purchases the rights to the Jungle Gardenia name, but not the Tuvaché trademark. This may be the Jungle Gardenia fragrance (without the Tuvaché trademark) currently being sold in places like the Vermont Country Store for around $70.

2013: Irma Shorell launches the fragrance, “Tuvaché Gardenia 1933” via Hypoluxe Inc. Note that the name “Jungle Gardenia” is not used as Garceau owns that trademark. Tuvaché Gardenia 1933 is a niche fragrance and is no longer in production.

Return Policy

My goal is for you to be pleased with your experience. Please contact me via eBay’s messaging system and I will take proper care of you. To qualify for a full refund, the seller must receive the returned item in the exact condition in which the seller originally sent the item. Returns with usage, damage, or leakage caused by the buyer (i.e. ruined boxes and/or labels; broken or tampered-with cording, stoppers, and/or seals) do not qualify for a full refund. In the extremely rare instance where the seller has reason to believe the original contents were either altered or removed/replaced by the buyer then no refund will be provided. Buyers who abuse the return policy or falsify item condition will be blocked from future transactions and reported to eBay.
