A very nice example of an Ashanti fertility doll with a good patina showing that it has been well handed over the years. This one is not a new shinny tourist piece and has a few frets and cracks earned over the years; These carved dolls would be carried around and cared for by young women hoping for a pregnancy. Sometimes they would be dressed in swaddling whilst they waited for their baby to arrive, and would be passed down the generations. This one stand at 28cm tall
I first became aware of these dolls a few years ago when watching Will and Grace on the T V. Will had one in his flat and i wondered if Grace would ever make use of the magic.. ;-)
