André Raymond (1925 - 2011) was a tireless researcher. He launched or radically transformed several fields of research, founded many of the institutions that support them, and travelled the world to consult archives and libraries, write books and articles, give lectures and see his many friends.
In a book entitled "Egyptians and French in Cairo" he draws up, among other things, the topography of the revolts against the occupier. That said, the author is committed to a certain objectivity, since he also notes the positive aspects of the Egyptian Expedition. He had done the same in his book on Tunisia (1961, reed. 1971) showing, as Albert Hourani developed, both the horrors of colonial violence and the undeniable progress towards modernity that the French presence had brought to the occupied country.
