Freshly harvested and in cold storage

Purple Pitcher Plant
Sarracenia purpurea
20 seeds

You don't have to wait until spring to get them growing. Start your plantings now to get a head start as they are slow growing and by summer you can have some small pitchers. These are fascinating plants that form open cups that catch rainwater in which the prey are captured. They can catch the slimy and large prey like snails and slugs. Even large beetles are devoured.

Sarracenia purpurea, or Purple Pitcher Plants, are very effective carnivorous plants and can help eliminate insect pests in the garden. My plants regularly consume the Yellow Jacket hornet keeping their numbers very low. They are also quite fond of the European Earwig as well as many other pests.

They are the hardiest of all Sarracenia plants and these seeds are from the biggest and most robust pitchers in my collection. They are pure strains with no hybridization as my plants grow alone and aren't around any other Sarracenia species. They are hardy to the coldest winters and don't lose their leaves from the frost.  Live Sphagnum moss is best but peat and sand mix will also work.

You will receive 20 Sarracenia purpurea seeds with the purchase of each item. These were harvested last fall and are the product of natural bee pollination from other S. purpurea resulting in pure strains. No bees have been harmed in the pollination of my plants, in fact, these plants remarkably don't eat their pollinators but catch almost everything else!!

NOTE: International buyers will have to do so at their own risk and shipping costs are determined upon location.
