Chloroxylon Swietenia
Also known as: East Indian satinwood, Ceylon satinwood

Here is a tropical deciduous small to medium-sized tree growing up to 18 meters tall that is native to southern India, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar.
It produces a decorative wood of excellent quality that fetches high prices on the international market. The wood is heavy, strong and hard and has a slight pleasant fragrance when freshly cut. It is, in addition, used as fuel wood. Because of its high quality timber, the tree has been greatly overexploited in the wild and has become scarce in many areas.

The leaves are pinnate, the bark is slightly corky and thick, the flowers are small, creamy white, and the fruits are oblong three-segmented capsules. In India most parts are used in traditional medicine. Essential oil obtained from the leaves and stems have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Dried leaves can be used for the treatment of wounds, snakebites, and rheumatism. Leaves and roots can be made into paste then taken internally or applied externally for relief from headaches. The seed also yields oil.

Suitable for any well-drained light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and can grow in nutritionally poor soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil but can tolerate drought. USDA zone hardiness 10-12.

This offer is for 8 seeds.

NO RETURNS/REFUNDS/REPLACEMENTS ON SEEDS

Most specialty seeds we offer are NOT fast to germinate.

Many take several weeks, months, and some even up towards a year depending on dormancy, region, season etc. It is important that the buyer understands that seeds are perishable products and seed germination can be adversely affected by such factors as mold/fungus, bugs, temperature, moisture content, light intensity, dormancy, care, contamination of planting media among many other reasons. These factors are totally out of The Plant Attraction's control and are the buyer's responsibility and risk. Germination recommendations are sent with each order and the buyer is free to research and use their own methods. Floating seeds do not always indicate that the seed is not viable. Many times it is a misconception because the seed does not have the density to sink in water. Accordingly, The Plant Attraction does not guarantee seeds to perform properly regardless of conditions or buyer's methods or mistakes. Since 2006 we have been doing our best to hand sort and provide the freshest, cleanest harvest that is free of defects and bugs.
