Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a unique microphone from the mid 1940's to late 1950's made by Electro Voice. The massive 726 Cardyne I dynamic mic was E.V's answer to the very popular and extremely large Shure Brothers 55 Fatboy microphone. The 726 Cardyne I was covered from head to toe in polished chrome with bold, deco lines that deserve attention. It comes with the period Turner desk stand shown in which to display.

Certainly one of the most iconic E.V mics ever though this particular example does show heavier wear. It actually still works but the signal strength is only 50% and just isn't usable for most live situations. This should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only.

You'll see in pic # 2 an old 1946 E.V advertisement showing this mic and it's basic characteristics. It was a fairly expensive mic as well. Pic # 3 shows the mics true size compared to the woman holding it.

This 726 has been thoroughly tested and cleaned. Again, the mic produces a weaker signal though the original element is complete and inside the housing. The 726 was a cardioid uni-directional microphone meaning that it only picks up noise that is directly in front of it cancelling out other unwanted noises off to the side or behind it giving it ideal use for events where background noise can often be a problem. This was a quality mic when first sold and a bit on the expensive side.

The chrome body is in about average condition but still worthy of any vintage microphone collection. I try to get the closest shots possible but sometimes it makes the microphone look worse than when you actually see it in person. I'd give it a conservative 6 on a scale of 1 - 10.

The black screens in the front and rear are free of any large rips or holes but there is some discoloration. The joint mechanism offers plenty of firm resistance to keep this heavy microphone at just the right angle needed. This classic microphone is 100% complete. The threads for both the cable are perfect. On / off switch slides smooth as it should and the 726 badge looks pretty good.

This 726 is absolutely free of any dents or fractures. The chrome has a nice luster still and shows typical scuffs, small nicks, scratches and chrome loss.

The chrome bodies do not polish out. Once a scratch or engraving is on the chrome...it's there forever. The chrome finish is very thin on a magnesium body. Too many sellers on Ebay claim that these mics will polish up with a little elbow grease...not true.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is from a period Turner C-3 model that has an aluminum base and short 3 inch chrome riser. The base still has the original paint and it looks pretty decent despite the discoloration. No chipped paint or heavy scratches. The 3 inch chrome riser shows typical wear. There is an old toggle switch on the base that isn't wired currently but could be at some point in the future.

The base has the original rubber pad that's in pretty good shape. The base makes a very stable platform for this mic. Total height with base and mic is appx 11 1/2 inches tall X 6 inches wide.

This going to make a cool display piece anywhere it sits and will draw plenty of attention.
