A superb and rare photo of the great Randy Goss in 1984 posing next to his Grand National Championship winning 1984 Harley-Davidson 500 R (aka 500 HDR) factory racing bike!
Randy Goss had a great career racing Harley Davidson motorcycles. A former motocross rider, Goss gained national attention in 1979 when he scored three victories and a third-place finish in points as a privateer racer. He signed with HD in 1980 and won the Grand National Championship for that year. He won the Camel Pro Grand National Championship crown again in 1983, with a consistency that saw him finish in the top five an amazing 17 times, and in the top ten 24 times! In 1984 Goss won two AMA Grand National Championships, one with the photographed machine!
Next to Randy we see the H-D 500-R (aka 500-HDR) factory racer where he won his impressive Championship with that year. This machine was equipped with an Austrian ROTAX engine, of Bombardier - CAN-AM - SWM and KTM fame. Even today the ROTAX single cylinder engine is enjoyed in Sound of Singles or SOS races worldwide.
It is a very nice non period photo that reflects a great era in Harley motorcycle racing history in a wonderful way, it definitely is a classic shot. It is rare to obtain a photo like this.
