The Georgians were very sentimental and it shows in the jewellery from the era, not least in their beautiful Mourning pieces.

This sweet antique Mourning brooch is a typical design of the Georgian era that remained popular throughout the 19th century.

It is a rectangular shape with a halo of flat cut Garnets around the outer rim, the Garnets encompassing a second halo of creamy l,tiny seed pearls which border a glazed panel with a lock of woven dark blonde hairwork beneath.

It is crafted in 9ct rose gold and has an old c type clasp and pin fastener.

Often used in the period as a lace pin, used to secure the lengths of lace or fichu at the neck of both men and women, today it could be worn in many ways, on a collar or lapel, swagged on a chain or in a hat!

A very beautiful antique Mourning piece.
