Condition: Good/ Fair Antique Condition: General, light age wear. Part of the front endpaper is missing/ torn (was repaired). Title page was missing & it was replaced with a photo-copy. Illustrations on pages 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 68, 74 are missing (13 illustrations out of 77 are missing). A few minor stains/spots and a few minor tears. The Ascension Cathedral (Вознесенский собор) is a Russian Orthodox church in Novocherkassk, Rostov Oblast, Russia. It used to be one of the largest churches of the Russian Empire and the main church of the Don Host Province.
The five-domed building, which stands 75 meters tall, is a notable example of the Russian Neo-Byzantine architecture. It was erected between 1891 and 1904 on the site of an earlier church. The first church on the site was built to Luigi Rusca's designs. It collapsed in 1846. A replacement church collapsed 17 years later.
The existing church building was designed by a local architect, Alexander Yashchenko, and dedicated in 1905. The worshipers were expelled from the church by the Communists in 1934. The Orthodox congregation resumed services in the upper church in 1942, after the Communists had been ousted from the Don Region by the Wehrmacht.
The Starocherkassk and Novocherkassk cathedrals are considered the main spiritual centres of the Don Cossackdom. Matvey Platov, Vasily Orlov-Denisov, Yakov Baklanov and other atamans of the Don Cossack Host are buried in the church. A bronze statue of Yermak, the conqueror of Siberia, in front of the porch was designed by Mikhail Mikeshin.

Konstantin Khristoforovich Limarenko - military engineer. From hereditary nobles, he graduated from the 2nd military Konstantinovsky School (1875), the Nikolaev Engineering Academy (1882 - 1st category). Since 1911 - lieutenant general. Builder of the Kovno Fortress Cathedral (Peter and Paul Cathedral in Kaunas). Completed the construction of the Cathedral of the Ascension of the Lord in Novocherkassk with significant changes to the project.

Вознесе́нский войсково́й всеказачий патриарший собор — православный храм в Новочеркасске, второй кафедральный собор Ростовской и Новочеркасской епархии и главный храм Донского казачества. Патриарший кафедральный собор патриарха Московского и всея Руси (с 2014 года).
Здесь покоятся останки донских героев-военачальников: атамана Донского казачьего войска графа Матвея Платова, Василия Орлова-Денисова, Ивана Ефремова, Якова Бакланова.

18 (30) мая 1805г. состоялось торжество освящения места и закладки г. Новочеркасска, а также временного деревянного соборного храма в честь Вознесения Господня. Судьба распорядилась таким образом, что к постройке каменного соборного храма войска Донского приступили только в октябре 1811г. А перед этим в новом городе проводились большие земляные работы по выравниванию главного проспекта (позднее он получит название Платовского). От будущей площади, где закладывался соборный храм, до будущей ул. Московской выравнивался проспект. «Фактически был прорыт канал на ширину проезжей части улицы от тротуара с одной стороны до тротуара с другой стороны», — писал архитектор К.Куликов. («Знамя Коммуны», № 174 от 10 сентября 1988г.). Если приглядеться, то и сейчас видны высокие тротуарные откосы у музея истории Донского казачества, у Военного института связи, рядом с кинотеатром «Танаис» и т.д.

Константин Христофорович Лимаренко - военный инженер. Из потомственных дворян, окончил 2-е военное Константиновское училище (1875), Николаевскую инженерную академию (1882- по 1-му разряду). С 1911 - генерал-лейтенант. Строитель Ковенского крепостного собора (Собор Петра и Павла в Каунасе). Завершил строительство собора Вознесения Господня в Новочеркасске с внесением существенных изменений в проект
