The Jazz Jamboree Festival, Warsaw, Poland

The Jazz Jamboree Festival, one of the largest and oldest jazz festivals in Europe, takes place in Warsaw. Jazz Jamboree International Jazz Festival - the idea for jazz JAMBOREE came from a handful of the fans and frequenters of the Warsaw club "Hybrydy" in 1958 when they heard a rumour that the immensely popular Sopot Jazz Festival was no longer to be. The 36th International Jazz Festival in Warsaw - 1994. 

The Jazz Jamboree Festival, one of the biggest and oldest jazz festivals in Europe, takes place in Warsaw. Organized by Jazz Jamboree Foundation. The first Jazz Jamboree was organised by Hot-Club Hybrydy. It was three days long (18 to 21 September 1958) and it was called "Jazz 58". The first three editions of the festival took place in the student's club Stodoła (with some of the concerts in Cracow). Then the venue was changed to Filharmonia Narodowa, and since 1965 all editions have taken place in Sala Kongresowa in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw.

The name "Jazz Jamboree" was coined by Leopold Tyrmand. Focusing on Jazz with international musicians and pop music was brought together, incorporating blues, folk, rock and soul, punk and new wave as well. The forty-odd editions held thus far have featured some of the world's greatest jazz musicians. 

The most famous among them have been Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Benny Goodman, Wynton Marsalis, The Manhattan Transfer, Bobby McFerrin, Ray Charles, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Michael Petrucciani and others that feature Polish performers. The International Jazz Jamboree Festival has long been the most important in Eastern Europe; it has received much critical attention in the West and was once funded by the Polish and American governments.

36th International Jazz Festival in Warsaw. 1994. Offset. Rafal Olbinski, born in 1945, graduated from the Architectural Department of Warsaw Politechnical School. From 1982 in the United States since 1985 he teaches at the prestigious School of Visual Arts in New York City. Boundless imagination and flawless technique have made Rafal Olbinski one of the widely known surrealists today. Rafal Olbinski received more than 100 Awards for his illustrations and paintings which include gold medals from the prestigious Society of Illustrators and Art Directors Club of New York. In 1994 he won the International Oscar for the World's Most Memorable Poster, "Prix Savignac 1994" in Paris. His works regularly appear in major publications such as "Newsweek", "Time", "Bussiness Week", "Atlantic Monthly", "Playboy", "And the New York Times" among others.
