 DESCRIPTION:
For sale is this nice and large, early 20th century, American folk art, primitive antique hand carved and hand painted white cedar, solid body with stationary head, redhead sporting duck decoy, complete with two piece construction, with the carved head being pegged on its base and attached to the duck form's lower body. The duck has golden yellow glass eyes with blk pupils, which are both present and intact, without chips, cracks or loss. The decoy may have been redressed with paint at a later point in time, in an effort to perhaps replace or at least redress its original painted finish, which may have been debilitated after much time, semi-submerged in water. The paint is done carefully and with a somewhat naive, primitive attempt to capture the redhead duck body's plumage. Where the head is attached to the body is a line, often seen where wood putty has since cracked along the fastened head/body juncture. A white painted band, not seen on redhead ducks, is seen here, possibly trying to hide this often cracked juncture. The duck's bill is naturally realized. Honest. Real. Authentic. Great.
