I own an advertising specialty company - now in our 45th year I am happy to report - and worked in the industry for many years prior to establishing my own firm.   For many years my best client was what was formerly known as "The Bell System".   Of course after divestiture, it was broken up into what was generally called the "Baby Bells" - and later morphed into many variations.

So over the years we worked very closely with Western Electric, AT&T, Southern Bell, BellSouth, Lucent Technologies, OFS, Avaya, etc.   I collected many over-run samples, one-or-a-kind spec samples, and the likes.

I am now selling much of that collection via eBay.  Here are six over-run samples from orders I sold AT&T in the 1980's - 1990's.   For all of these years they have been kept in closed containers in one of our climate controlled sample rooms.

And here is what the fortunate buyer will receive:

A.   First the one speculative sample that I was unable to sell to AT&T.   In the early 1990's, we had a supplier that produced custom molded designs from a material similar to rubber, but more substantial.   My idea was to create a nice coaster using the "Globe" as the centerpiece of the inlaid area for the cup, and adding the AT&T logo on the bottom.   I had two samples created - one sold long ago, and this one.   So you will not find others anywhere.

Unfortunately, AT&T strongly did not like my idea as the design distorted their logo, and looking back, I must agree.   This is one of those situations where it "seemed like a good idea at the time".

The size is 5.5" x 4.25", and approx. quarter inch thick.   And as mentioned, it is flexible to an extent, and made in the U.S.A.

What an unusual piece for an AT&T collector!

B.      Playing cards were always a popular advertising item, and here is a very nice deck.   The deck is in black and gold, with the AT&T logo stamped in gold.   The deck is specially packaged in a gold display box, and proudly made in the U.S.A. by Gemaco.

As an aside - Gemaco was owned by a fine gentleman named George Matteson, hence the company name.   I knew George, and we often played tennis when he was in town.  Unfortunately George passed away some time ago, but a fine fellow for sure.   Sadly George is no longer with us, but his name and company live on...

Gemaco was and still is an industry leader in playing cards.   An indication of their quality is that they supply cards to many casinos.

C.   Shelton Tool Company of Shelton, CT was another excellent supplier.   Here is their mini tool kit featuring five interchangeable blades with swivel top handle.   the tools are housed in a custom plastic presentation container with the logo and tag line "The Right Choice".   U.S.A. made.

D.   Washburn Laboratories was yet another fine supplier.  Here is their "Fun-In-The-Sun" kit with three different bottles of protection.   The container is in a flexible white material with the AT&T logo in blue on the top.   Since this was from the 1990's, I assume the lotions are by now not too effective, but a nice gift none the less.  U.S.A. made.

E.  AT&T was a strong supporter of "The United Way", and all employees expected to contribute.   Each campaign, donating employees were presented with a small token gift.   For the 1984/85 campaign, the chairperson for AT&T's Atlanta Works used this unique photo frame.   The full acrylic block in front can be removed, and a personal photo inserted.   It was presented with a message from the chairperson.   After this campaign, I saw these on virtually every desk.   The size is 3.5" x 2.5". and U.S.A. made.

F.   Over the years, we supplied AT&T with a wide variety of lapel pins.  At their Atlanta Works facility in Norcross, GA, they had an employee program called "Quality of Work Life", or "QWL".   As I recall, it was to demonstrate the relationship between union members and management.   Here is an over-run pin given to all employees.   Like everything else listed, it too was made in the U.S.A.

So here are a variety of unusual AT&T logoed gifts.   As mentioned, none have ever been used, and in outstanding condition!   All are made in the U.S.A.   How rare!
