* A RARE SET OF 6 RUSSIAN SPOONS ONCE OWNED BY THE
DAUGHTER-IN-LAW OF GEN. GEORGE G. MEADE - PLEASE READ ON *
For sale is a rare set of 6 late 19th Century Russian solid 84 silver gilded
polychrome Cloisonne enameled spoons purchased as once owned by the
son and daughter-in-law of General George Gordon Meade from Philadelphia, PA.
These lovely spoons are 4-7/16" long; combined weight around 100 grams.
There are two distinct designs with three spoons for each. These six are
made in the more traditional Cloisonne style with a textured polychrome design.
What ties the two different designs all together is the same monogram in the
center of each bowl - ELM. Our research found General George Gordon Meade
and his wife had a son also named George Meade (Colonel) who married
Elizabeth Morris Lewis (Meade). Also known as "Bessie" she was born in
1849 and died in 1931.
There are two distinct maker's mark: one set of three with marks indicating
they were made in Moscow in the 1890's with the maker's mark in Cyrillic "HC".
The other three spoons have maker's in Cyrillic "AK". Please review all photos
as they are part of the description. Condition is excellent given their age with
only minor wear.
NOTE: WE ARE SELLING ANOTHER SET OF SIX SPOONS THAT ARE PART
OF THE ORIGINAL SET OF 12 IN ANOTHER LISTING. THEY ARE THE
CHAMPLEVE STYLE; PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT AS WELL.
We are selling this used item as pictured and as / is so please read the
description and review all the photos and email if questions remain
