I have here for sale the sixth edition (twentieth thousand) of THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES by MEANS of NATURAL SELECTION or the PRESERVATION OF FAVOURED RACES IN THE STRUGGLE FOR LIFE by CHARLES DARWIN. This book was published in 1878 by JOHN MURRAY, London. With fold out plate.

Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species rattled Victorian readers in 1859, even though it said almost nothing about how the idea of evolution applied to human beings. It is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology; it was published on 24 November 1859. Darwin's book introduced the scientific theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection. The book presented a body of evidence that the diversity of life arose by common descent through a branching pattern of evolution. Darwin included evidence that he had collected on the Beagle expedition in the 1830s and his subsequent findings from research, correspondence, and experimentation.

Bound in green linen boards. Gilt title lettering to the spine. Spine ends and board corners are bumped. Light surface wear to the boards. Boards beginning to pull but remain firm and text block tightly bound. Brown endpapers, lacking ffep and 'half title' page. Loss to top corner of title page - assumed removal of name. Scattered foxing including the plate. Nice clean copy with no loose or missing pages 458pp 20cm x 13cm.

Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped. 

To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :)
