A fantastic original German TRENCH map dated July 1916 which relates to the Russians' BRUSILOV OFFENSIVE on the Eastern Front, concentrating on the area around Brody (now part of Ukraine).

The Brusilov Offensive was a huge Russian push on the Eastern Front which began in June 1916 and lasted until the end of September. It sought to capture a number of cities held by Austro-Hungarian forces.

The Russians were successful initially, and as the frontline moved further West, large numbers of German troops were diverted away from the Battle of Verdun on the Western Front and sent to support the Austro-Hungarians.

Whilst later trench maps of this area show Russian trenches overprinted in red, I believe that the blue trenches shown on the map are those of the advancing Russians. Further research may back this up, but the British also changed the colours on their trenches during the War, so as confusing as this may have been at the time, it's not out of the question.

The original survey was Austro-Hungarian, and from others I've seen it appears that (in addition to the blue trenches) the green shading for the wooded areas has been added by the Germans.

A rare and fascinating Eastern Front trench map in excellent condition.

Measures 54cm x 43cm.

This depends on the overall value of the item (or items) contained within the package. UK sellers are now required to display these details in the form of a Customs Declaration attached to the outside of the package. Such matters are beyond my control as the process is administered by the Customs Department of the destination country. With this in mind, please can all buyers from EU countries make themselves aware of how these changes may affect them when purchasing items from the UK.
