Johannes Petrus Hasebroek ( Leiden , November 6 , 1812 – Amsterdam , March 29, 1896 ) was a Dutch writer , poet and preacher . He was also known by the pseudonym Jonathan .

Hasebroek was a typical 19th-century writer, who published books as well as preached , just like his two friends Nicolaas Beets and Jan Jakob Lodewijk ten Kate . With a few others they were called the pastor-poets , against whose moralistic poems the Tachtigers protested.

He was born in Leiden as one of nine children of pharmacist Johannes Hasebroek (1778 - 1857) and Maria Theresia Kleyn (1788? - 1865). The writer Elisabeth Hasebroek was his eldest sister. He attended the Stedelijk Gymnasium in Leiden and studied theology at the University of Leiden . In October 1836 he became a minister in the 'white church' in Heiloo , in 1843 in Breda , in 1852 in Middelburg and finally on November 12, 1851 in Amsterdam . In 1883 he became emeritus .
