C 1720S RARE EAST RYDING YORKSHIRE MANUSCRIPT MAP ON VELLUM RYSAM GARTH

[Yorkshire]. A Plan of the Lordship of Rysam Garth in Holderness in the East Ryding of the County of Yorke, Copied from an Antient Survey made in the year 1595. Np, nd but circa early 1700s. An unsigned copy of this land document, probably made before 1750, pen and ink with green and yellow wash on vellum, with compass device and legend, indistinct name of Richd Gee to upper right, some probable later 18th century additions. Measures 23 by 28 ½ inches. Some rubbing and soiling, 1x½" hole at top edge, not affecting text; very good.

Appears to be the only surviving evidence of the 1595 survey. While there is evidence of a surveyor named Richard Gee, who worked in a number of counties and died in 1811, this Richard Gee seems likelier to be the owner of Rysome Manor (died: 1727) or his son Richard Gee (died: 1791). The legend lists the names of the various closes on the property.
