Hello and welcome to The house of Chrome.

You are looking at one of the most famous and collectible Turner mics of all time. The Turner S33X with heavy deco influence and outrageous style that set it apart from every other microphone ever designed. This is the 2nd generation Turner S33X series crystal microphone.

You'll see in pic # 2 an old 1949 Turner advertisement I have showing specs and price on this mic. In 1949 Turner changed the look of the 33X / S33X on the lower pistol grip giving it a flat front badge as opposed to the earlier 33D with the rounded front badge. Otherwise the mic looked the same. The top portion (head) was never altered in design.

It should be noted right away that while the S33X is 100% complete with original crystal element this mic has been tested and it has a dead element. It should be used strictly for prop, display or repair purposes only.

The 33 series was first introduced in the 1940's and had a run of about 20 + years. The 33 series also came with either a crystal or dynamic element. The crystal elements were inferior and tended to wear out over time while the dynamic elements sounded much better and tended to last better over the decades. About 90% or more of the 33X's I come across no longer work.

The on / off switch works perfectly and slides smooth.

As you can see the satin chrome finish is in pretty darn nice overall condition showing lite wear with a couple heavy scuff marks. No dents, engravings or heavy pitting. The satin chrome finish has a beautiful luster still and it will make for a nice display piece. The black cloth screen is perfect and the joint mechanism is flawless offering plenty of resistance to get the right angle needed and the threads for both the cable and stand are perfect.

The Turner badge looks very good with just lite wear and completely legible.

The overall finish of the mic I would give a very conservative 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

MICROPHONE STAND IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a 1940's /50's era Astatic brand E6G desk stand.

This model was a detachable desk stand that has a painted aluminum base with detachable painted wooden handle allowing the user of the mic to quickly release the mic attached and walk around using the handle to support the mic with the twist of the handle.

This design was very practical for it's time as very few people actually held those older mics in their hand. It was considered taboo so the mic stand handle was a more civilized and practical option.

The stands wooden riser seats on the base via a small hole where the riser sits. There is plenty of tension once applied. Easy to remove once twisted half way and lifted upwards.

Often the top of the wood handle is stripped out from years of use making it hard for any mic to screw onto the handle but this handle is excellent.

The top wooden riser has the black painted finish and looks very nice while the bottom painted aluminum base shows the same amount of wear. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. The stand has the 3 original rubber pads and they are in excellent shape. Stand is appx 6 inches tall X 5 inches wide. With mic on top it's appx 10 inches tall.

Mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have if you don't like the desk stand provided.

This will make a very cool display piece anywhere in the home, studio or workplace.
