The Old Man and the Sea is a short heroic novel written by Ernest Hemingway, published in 1952 and awarded the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. It was Hemingway’s last major work of fiction. The story centres on an aging fisherman who engages in an epic battle to catch a giant marlin.

Excerpt from The Guardian review written by Russell Cunningham and published on Aug 24, 2016: “The Old Man and the Sea is a beautiful tale, awash in the seasalt and sweat, bait and beer of the Havana coast. It tells a fundamental human truth: in a volatile world, from our first breath to our last wish, through triumphs and pitfalls both trivial and profound, what sustains us, ultimately, is hope.”
