The Journal of a Voyage to Lisbon by Jenny Fielding.  Published by A. Millar, London, 1755.  Very good, first edition book in polished calf.  Gilt-ruled, five raised bands on spine, title on red leather in the second section. Front and back boards have narrow double gilt fillet borders.  All external page edges are trimmed and red-speckled, also age-darkened. The half-title page is present as are a head-piece illustration and woodcut initials at the start of each chapter, all as called for in the first edition. Two blank FFEPs, Half-title, Title page, Dedication i-iv, Preface i-xvii, Text pages 19-228, two back free end-papers.  Board panels are scratched and rubbed.  Fore-edge corners are rubbed through. Cap at head of spine is missing. Front spine gutter is cracked through to the front paste down but still attached by the upper and lower raised bands. Pencilled and ink writing on the front end-papers and previous owner's bookplate. Shadow transfers around upper and side edges of end papers and through the half-title page at the front of the book, paste-down and end-papers at the back of the book.  The paste-downs and end papers are soiled as noted above, no foxing is present.
