BOOK PLATE ENGRAVED PRINT
SETTLING THE CRUMMIE
A book plate engraved print signed by Geikie and entitled ‘Settling the
Crummie’ (cow with a crumpled horn).
Walter Geikie (1795-1837) was
born in Edinburgh Scotland. He was both deaf and dumb but showing great promise
for his drawing skills was accepted by the Trustees’ Academy studying under
Andrew Wilson. He was well known and prolific in both drawing and print making
and is also renowned for his book plates which are highly collectable.
It is in good vintage/antique condition. The rough edge to one side
confirms it was originally a book plate
