E221s Dunkelgelb nach Muster (Dark Yellow Sample)

Saturated color  10ml. (0.33oz)

Authentic paint Wehrmacht

In 1943, in accordance with Wehrmacht Order No. 181 of February 1943, a new camouflage scheme for army vehicles and guns was officially introduced after a long trial period.

The basis of the new camouflage is dark beige RAL 7028 . This dark yellow color was the basic surface coloring. Applied spots or stripes of camouflage consisted of 2 colors, RAL 8017 "red-brown" and RAL 6003 "olive-green", and were applied in appropriate quantities depending on season, weather and area of operation. Thus, olive green stains were used more often in the summer and reddish brown in the fall. Most of the vehicles were painted dark yellow at the factory and then the appropriate camouflage patches or stripes were applied locally. Many photos show that camouflage patches were applied to moving parts, such as wheels or rims. The spraying resulted in soft transitions. In the early days of the introduction of the new color, vehicles painted a dark gray RAL 7021 No. , were often painted with dark yellow spots.

From about October 1942 the dark yellow color (In the palette Arcus 208 RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb), developed by the Army, presumably in 1941 as a paint for agricultural machinery and equipment, went to field tests in the southern section of the Eastern Front and in North Africa. This is confirmed by extant exhibits. But it is worth noting that this color had at least two modifications: RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb (In the palette Arcus 222 RAL 7028b Dunkelgelb) and Dunkelgelb nach Muster (In the palette Arcus 221 Dunkelgelb nach Muster). The basic color Dunkelgelb nach Muster, was replaced by Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 (In Arcus palette 223 RAL 7028c Dunkelgelb), only a few weeks after its official introduction. The new shade was adopted in RAL-Farbtonregister 840 R, in March 1943. The Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 shade was less yellow than the Dunkelgelb nach Muster. It tended more toward taupe. Because of delays in production of Dunkelgelb RAL 7028, Dunkelgelb nach Muster was used until the fall of 1943.

The dark yellow RAL 7028 was to be used for painting equipment and ammunition vehicles produced between March 1943 and October 1944. Of course, various manufacturers still had stocks of this color after October 1944, so this color may reflect the situation until the end of the war.

The new camouflage scheme was first widely used in Operation Zitadel on the Type III / IV / V / VI tanks used there. Vehicles and equipment destined for Africa were also uniformly painted dark yellow from February 1943. The dark yellow color changed, but not the additional camouflage colors RAL 6003 and RAL 8017.

Used for painting:

Camouflage of Wehrmacht vehicles and armored vehicles in conjunction with 204 RAL 6003 and / or 209 RAL 8017 (1943-1945)

Gasoline canisters, ammunition boxes, equipment boxes, faustpatrone, cookware, dining cups
