Antique Miner's Cap Lamp. Used to illuminate in coal mines these lamps burned oil, or a mix of fat and oil, through a wick pulled through the spout.

Heavy metal construction, possibly tin, I'm not sure.  Includes cap, with a star pattern and crude hook on a small length of chain.

These were created in Scotland in 1850 and used up to 1920 there and in the US.

About 8" tall and 6" wide. Weighs 1.2 lbs.
