CONDITION:  These 1950/60s French TAP 47/56 combat trousers are in a good condition for their age. You should nevertheless expect some general wear and tear from military use. The main issues are: a couple of perforations, both adjustable waist tabs are partially missing, a hole/tear is present at the back of the left ankle, and some of the stitching has come undone at the leg opening (see pictures). Overall, despite the needed repairs, these trousers remain a beautiful example of the classic French Lizard/LĂ©opard combat trousers from the Algerian War, in a nice sun-faded reddish tone.

NOTE:  These trousers have been thoroughly cleaned.

HISTORY:  The lizard pattern (TAP47 pattern or Leopard pattern for the French) is a family of many related designs of military camouflage pattern, first used by the French Army on uniforms from 1947 to the late 1980s. It was based on the British paratroopers' Denison smock and its brushstroke patternThe use of the pattern is still widespread in Africa despite its association with France. There are two major types of lizard pattern, horizontal like the French design, and vertical like the variant developed by Portugal. In addition, the Vietnam War Tigerstripe pattern is descended from the Lizard pattern.
