Ricordo di Roma/Memories of Rome
Bronze Souvenir
She Wolf with Sucklings Romulus & Remus
According to tradition, Rome was founded by Romulus and Remus, twin brothers, in 753 B.C. They were sons of a human mother and the God of War, Mars. Threatened by the babies who might take his thrown, the king ordered them killed. They were placed in a basket to float down the Tiber River and to die. The babies were found and suckled by the She-Wolf, Lupa, until they came to be raised by the herdsman Faustulus and his wife. The boys grew to be leaders and founded a City. Romulus later slayed Remus. The city was then name Roma/Rome after Romulus.
This is a lovely souvenir paperweight from Rome commemorates this history, albeit somewhat mythical, of the Italian City. The She Wolf and the human twins are made of bronze metal and secured to a marble base. The original label is on the marble, Ricordo (Memories) of Roma.
