H. K. Silvey - Fiddling from Ozark County, MO (Field Recorders Collective FRC 729)

H. K. Silvey is an old-time fiddler from Longrun, Missouri, who after learning to play his Uncle Jess's fiddle on the sly as a youngster, soon began playing  dances in Ozark County. His career in the aerospace industry took him away from home to places southwest and west, but he never stopped playing his fiddle at dances with country and bluegrass bands. He came back to Missouri in the late 1970s and resumed farming and playing with local musicians at dances and local events. The tunes heard here, recorded over Memorial Day weekend in 2016, provide an overview of H.K.'s repertoire - one that differs somewhat from that of other area fiddlers - and his fine technique. He is ably accompanied on these tunes by Nathan McAllister on clawhammer banjo and Jim Nelson.
