I have here for sale FIRST EDITION / 2nd impression of THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF MARTIN CHUZZLEWIT by CHARLES DICKENS. Published in 1844 by CHAPMAN AND HALL, London. 38 plates and title vignette and frontispiece by PHIZ ( Hablot Browne) all present.

The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit. With Illustrations by Phiz. London: Chapman and Hall, 1844. First edition in book form, second issue following all points in Smith including vignette on title-page with amount on sign post "£100". Plates facing pp. 387 and 386 transposed. Errata with 14 lines, verso blank], 624 pp. Forty etched plates including frontispiece and title-page vignette by Hablot K. Browne aka "Phiz." 

Half bound in leather over marbled boards. Gilt title lettering to black block on the spine. Surface scuffs to boards. Spine edges and board edges are rubbed. ' Tribute to a Genius - Charles Dickens' bookplate to the inside of the front board. Title vingette has been reattached. Another plate has been repaired and reattached. Browning to all plates, this is typical of the age, illustrations in early printing were printed from wood block which progressed into copper plates which progressed into engravings on steel. The copper plates are the problem as oxidation occurs in copper, the result is a greenish coating on the metal called copper oxide but on paper it becomes a brownish hue. Light foxing to the page margins. Endpaper and last page are creased. This book is in good condition, tightly bound with no loose or missing pages xiv, [1], 624pp 23cm x 14cm.

Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped. 

To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :)
