Antique 1848 Wedgwood England 9.75" Plate COLUMBIA Brown Transferware Ironstone

The platter shows a diamond mark on the back which was used between 1842 and 1867 as UK Registry marks. The "IV" on top of the diamond stands for the material "Ceramics", the letter below here "U" for the year (1848), the letter "R" in the left corner for the month (October) and the number in the right corner of the diamond for the day, here "23". The pattern was registered October 23, 1848.

The pattern shows a river with boats and mountains in the background as well  as old buildings and in the front four persons on a terrace. Framed is the center theme by a foral band with small pictures of a town with towers at a river with bridge. On two sides you find a swirled embossed design which look like handles. The item is not flat but not really deep enough to call it a bowl. Please check photos and measurements.

We found with our research the same design listed as from Wedgwood England, pattern Columbia.

The plate is in excellent antique condition. There are no chips or cracks visible. The plate shows age and use related crazing and discoloration. A small app. 2/8" spot loss of glaze on the rim where the plate stands on. There is a small mark like missing material below the sky which is not disturbing and we are not sure if it is production related. Please check our pictures as they are part of the description.
