Runs on two CR2032 lithium batteries that are easy to replace. I have used these at Burning Man myself and as a gift. Some units that I have bought many years ago no longer worked but all it took to bring them back to life was a new set of batteries. 

Made of nylon and in can be washed. You would need to remove battery pack with the light element before submerging in the water and it is very easy to do.

Very versatile – I have had them put on arms, ankles, wrists, belts, backpacks, hydration bottles, bicycles and more..
