A New Hall hard paste porcelain coffee can, cylindrical in shape with a plain loop handle, circa 1800-1807. The coffee can is richly decorated with a Tobacco pattern, Pattern 490; this version of the pattern features the main design in underglaze blue with painted orange and green leaves and puce flowers, all beautifully gilded; there is a dark underglaze blue border to the outer rim with a painted gilt garland, and gilt rims and handle highlights. Unmarked.

Diameter 6.6 cm (2.6”), rim height 6.1.cm (2.4”).

Condition: good, with some stray smudges of underglaze blue to the inner surface of the coffee can and minor wear to the gilt rim.

Reference: A Partial Reconstruction of the New Hall Pattern Book, Patricia Preller, page 24 shows this pattern and page153 shows this among nine different versions of the Tobacco pattern used at New Hall.
