ABOUT THE ARTIST
The career of R. G. Smith is unique in the field of aviation. His 44 years' of ex-
perience in aircraft design includes participation in the conceptual or configuration
phase of every tactical military airplane built by the Douglas Aircraft Company.
During these same 44 years, he has also achieved international recognition as an ar-
tist whose paintings hang in airline executive offices, museums and military
establishments throughout the world. His Navy combat art tours include Vietnam in
1968 and 1969. The U.S. Navy acknowledged his personal contribution to Naval
aviation when they appointed him an "Honorary Naval Aviator." R. G.'s vast ex-
perience in the military design field has been paralleled by similar contributions to
commercial aviation.
