This picture of a rustic home interior contains some fascinating details: a fine dresser, an open-rafter ceiling, a diploma on the wall, and a bright oil lamp.  On the back it is inscribed
"To Lydia and James Pettit
from Henry and Rosa Sachow"

Henry and Rosetta Sachow were married in 1890, and if the boys in front are theirs, it would date this picture right at the end of the 19th century.

This is a Real Photo Postcard (RPPC), a very popular item in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.  Often taken with a person’s own camera or by a traveling photographer (or in this case a studio photographer), the image would then be printed on card stock with a postcard format on the back, which could then be mailed.  These pictures are highly collectible.
