It's the year 2022 and Finnish funeral doom legends SHAPE OF DESPAIR return to the stage with their now 5th studio full lenght album ''Return To The Void''. More than seven years after ''Monotony Fields'' the Finnish doomers are slowly crawling around again. The melancholic and catchy side is once again fully pronounced on ''Return To The Void'' and the inclined listener feels completely at home again shortly after opening in the slow-motion tempo of the title track. SHAPE OF DESPAIR are still far from average and once again know how to inspire with tastefully staged Funeral Doom. Walls of guitars, massive and apathetic like a brutalist record building, drums played in the rhythm of a funeral march, showers of keyboards in which one threatens to sink like in an ocean, above all this a monstrous rumbling, hardly recognisable as a human voice. These are the characteristics that make funeral doom perhaps the most oppressive of all metal subgenres. SHAPE OF DESPAIR serve exactly all of this.
