Franz Anton Mehlem (FAM), Bonn, Germany
Antique 9-7/8" Decorative Bowl
Purple & Yellow Orchids, Bright Green Ribbed Sides, Scalloped Rim

This is a very pretty, colorful bowl made between 1885 and 1920 by FA Mehlem (FAM) of Bonn, Germany (Steingut-Fabrik und Kunsttöpferei F.A. Mehlem, Inh. F. Guilleaume, 1884-1920). It has a very elaborate design of purple and pale yellow orchids framed by a bright green glaze, with ribbed sides and embossed edges to the scalloped rim. It measures just a hair under 10 inches (depending on where you measure, usually showing closer to 9-7/8 inches) across the tips of the rim, 2.5 inches high at the rim, and 5.75 inches wide across the raised foot ring.

The bowl is in fair to good condition, with no chips or cracks. There is a lot of crazing, more visible on the white underside than on the green and floral design. There are areas where the crazing has started to brown, and it can be seen in the green areas on the sides of the bowl. There are also a couple of scratch marks to the green glaze, though the iris design seems intact with no scratches or scuffs.

The bottom of the bowl has the basic 'tower mark' with 'F-A-M' over 'BONN' (1885 until 1920), as shown and described at the porcelainmarksandmore website. There are also some impressed numbers or marks I can't quite make out (such as a number 1 with perhaps a sideways B).
