Marine band hand held radios tend to come in two types now - tiny ones that will be comfy inside a wetsuit and offer limited facilities and more sophisticated radios that can offer extra features. They also are more 'chunky' and suited for a harder life. We have a large number of Icom IC-M35 radios that customers have abused over the years and reliability has been superb - they are VERY grubby and scratched but they work fine. They are now replacing them with the IC-M36, which visually is identical, just a later model. We have a few spare so are listing them here.
They are quite heavy radios, with antenna and battery pack, they're 300g - but they float, which is pretty handy when you drop them in the water!

PLEASE NOTE - All radios described as waterproof rely on making sure the battery compartments are secure and correctly fitted - if you remove a pack, cover or flap please make sure you replace it carefully so the water exclusion seals can make good contact. If the batteries or covers are not fitted properly - water WILL get inside. It's very important to check they are closed properly.

The IC-M36 is a 6W VHF radio that is submersible up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. It also features function for AquaQuake, that uses a vibrating sound to help remove water from the speaker grill. The IC-M36 also floats, making it great for a ditch bag.
The IC-M36 is very ergonomic. Its slender, pinched-waist body is easy to hold and the large, easy to read backlight display and large buttons make it easy to operate. It has dual/tri-watch functions, weather channel with alerts, auto scan, and dual power modes to increase battery life. The IC-M36 has the ability to set your favorite channels for quick channel changes, and also has instant access to channel 16 or 9.
In addition to its many other features, IC-M36 also has a noise-canceling microphone to reduce background noise and an automatic volume adjustment to increase volume when used in areas with loud noise, such as an engine room. The IC-M36 also has a removable antenna so you can connect it to a larger fix mounted one to increase its range.
