Rare signed portable folding Andrew Ross Microscope. C 1847-1859.
This microscope has the case and accessories. Accessories in the case include Bulls eye
condenser and base, 2 brass objective cases (1/4 inch and 1/8 inch). The 1/8-inch objective case is empty and is
the one mounted on the scope. The ¼ inch
case has the objective inside. Also
included are two eyepeieces, tweezers and live box. The signature reads” A. Ross, London,
No294”. This signature places
the microscope about 1847-1859.
Furthermore, the 1/8 inch objective has the date 1857. The microscope stands about 12 1/2 inches
tall collapsed to minimum height (31.75 cm).
Case dimensions are 10 inches long x 5 ½ inches wide x 3 ¾ inches high
(25.4 cm x 13.97 cm x 9.52 cm). Case has
a crack on the lid that does not appear to weaken the structure of the
lid. Both sides of the double-sided
mirror have some pitting. The stage has
working X-Y directional controls and there is a substage wheel that stops down
the amount of light reaching the stage.
