Sapphire does not just occur in shades of blue. Sapphire can be found in an incredible range of colours including daffodil yellows and teal greens to hot pinks and deep purples. In fact nearly every colour in the rainbow can be found in a sapphire. The many colourful varieties of sapphire are referred to as "FANCY COLOURED SAPPHIRES." The word "sapphire"by itself is reserved for blue sapphire, and fancy coloured stones by their colour, e.g. Pink Sapphire, Green Sapphire. Some sapphire colours are so unique, they are know by a descriptive term, e.g. Pararadscha Sapphire, peach/pink tone names for the colour of a lotus flower, or Parti-Coloured sapphire, a two-or-more coloured stone, generally from Australia. Some sapphire can change colour depending on the light under which it is viewed.

Parti Sapphire
Australian Parti Sapphires are a unique Australian gemstone where the gem is not one solid color but are a mixture of at least 2 colors. The majority of the best examples of parti sapphire are mined in Australia and consist of unique blends of yellows and blues. According to the positioning of facets the gem can even throw green on top of the yellows and blues! One large benefit of choosing a parti sapphire is that as of present companies have not be able to artificially manufacture them and this sort of provides a guarantee that the gemstone is natural. Another benefit of choosing to purchase a parti sapphire is that you will own a truly unique gem. These gems do tend to be a one of a kind.
Parti Sapphires are brilliant for people that like rare individualized stones with character and uniqueness.

Arguably the most popular fancy colour for sapphire is pink, with hues ranging from very pale baby pinks to vivid, almost magenta, intense pinks. Most of this material comes from Sri Lanka and Madagascar.

Yellow Sapphire can encompass colours from pale to bright sunshine yellow, increasing in saturation to orange and burnt orange. Australian, Sri Lanka and Madagascar are among the largest suppliers.

Green Sapphire is coloured by iron, and the colour tends to be light yellowish green to bottle green rather than emerald green. Australia produces some of the most finest green sapphire in the world.

Purple Sapphire will occur in violet and purple tones in varying levels of saturation, and you can also find sapphire in cognac and colourless.
