Antique Japanese Samurai Katana Sword (Blade Circa 1550).

Japanese katana 28 inch blade with partial inscription on shortened tang: "Bishu Osa-", a famous sword making center. The blade dates from the last Muromachi era, circa 1450. The tsuba is made from iron with gilt and silver inlays and features a design of mist and wild chrysanthemums. The tsuba is from the Mito School, circa 1840. The hilt of the sword is done in the handachi style and dates to the Meji era (1868-1912). The menuki date to circa 19th Century and are made from a copper alloy. The sheath is of a high lacquered magnolia wood and dates to circa 19th Century. The habaki is from the Meji era and is made from copper with engraved pine tree, needles and pine cones, all symbols from long life.
