We are offering individual stainless steel, black butted spokes
(13 gauge 2.3mm / 14 gauge 2mm diameter) and in different lengths (we
sell silver in a separate listing) the spokes offer better value with
increasing numbers purchased. Each
spoke comes with its own same coloured, 12mm long, brass nipple; be
aware that not all spokes on Ebay are offered with the nipple. We also sell a range of coloured nipples and alloy nipples from our Ebay shop. (When Sapim spokes are out of stock we replace them with Pillar.)
These
spokes at 2.3mm and butted are stronger than equivalent 2mm butted, or
2.3mm plain gauge spokes and as such are particularly suitable for
e-bikes and tandems which weigh more than conventional bikes. Although
it is worth noting that spokes only
tend to break, without impact, if the spokes are poor quality or the
wheel build is poor. It is the case that buying these high quality
spokes will not correct either of those factors in your existing wheel.
Butted
spokes are stronger than plain, for a given diameter, and more
resistant to impact offering greater springiness and greater comfort,
they can also be built into a stiffer wheel. Plain gauge spokes are
cheaper than butted and have less spring and strength but do not result
in a heavily buckled wheel when they break; for this reason they are the
spoke of choice for expedition riders, tourers and long distance
riders. They are easy to replace and repair and although not as strong
as butted the strength characteristics are still high.
