St Peter's WOLVERHAMPTON

ORIGINAL ANTIQUE

This is an original antique engraving c1890, artistically hand coloured.

The Art of the miniature watercolourist. The ancient art of the colourist dates to medieval times, beginning with illuminators and heraldic art. Before the days of colour printing, engravings would be taken to the colourists studio to be artistically hand coloured. From the mid-19th century this art began to disappear. These days only a few trained artists specialise in this highly skilled technique.

St Peter's Collegiate Church is located in central Wolverhampton, England. For many centuries it was a chapel royal and from 1480 a royal peculiar, independent of the Diocese of Lichfield and even the Province of Canterbury.

Antique prints, maps, engravings, lithographs, etchings, adverts, are all fragments of history, many remaining in excellent condition after 100 or more years. These are genuine Antique or Vintage items which we individually scan and describe.

Scans – Engravings are formed of fine lines and may show a colour cast or wavy lines on black and white images and possible rainbow casts on colour. The watermark is, of course, not on the original.
