Cashmere shawl/blanket- for the baby who has everything!

I am selling items from my father’s archive. He was a textile designer who produced luxury apparel fabrics for famous ready-to-wear and couture houses from the 1950s until his death in 2006. He also produced scarves, shawls and throws for these and other labels.

(I listed some of the labels but eBay made me remove them for using too many brand names on one listing! Happy to answer questions if you’d like to know more).

This shawl was archived as pure cashmere.

It measures 76 x 110 cm and has an 8 cm rolled fringe at each end.

It has a central jacquard of a Jemima type duck with a ribbon round her neck, and a rolled fringe at either end.

I believe this was made for Best & Co, originally a famous children’s store, founded in 1879 in Greenwich, Connecticut and expanded to New York. It closed in 1970. The name was resurrected by Susie (wife of Tommy) Hilfiger, who bought an existing children’s shop, again in Greenwich, in 1997, and again expanded into New York. I believe it, too, has now closed.

All of the archive items are at least twenty years old and unused. Some are one off samples. Those that went into production will have by now been replaced with new designs, which means that you will most likely be buying something that doesn’t exist elsewhere in this condition.
