How did you come up with the idea for this product?

We’ve been scouring the planet for fun and unusual phone accessories since the OG iPhone. Our shop has tiny ring lights, palm sized telephoto lenses, and even devices that allow you to mount a regular SLR camera lens to your phone. Yet in all our hunting we couldn’t find a simple, well designed, practical set of phone lenses. With so many lens and accessory options out there for a Canon or Nikon camera - why were there so few for the camera you use the most? We took all of our buying and treasure hunting experience, conversations with fans, and our hopes dreams to build The Iris Series.

What makes your product special?

The Iris is a friendly yet professional quality tool. We created it for people who would otherwise feel alienated by sleek or expensive tech accessories. The mount system we created is unlike any other in that it allows you to use the Iris lens over your case. This was a major design challenge that was important for us to solve. So many people prefer to 1) use a case and 2) use the case they picked out, the one that fits their style. The Iris adapts to you, you don’t have to adapt to it. The optics were designed specifically around the iPhone and Android’s built-in cameras. They won’t diminish clarity and have amazing corner to corner resolution with hardly any vignetting.

What has been the best part of your startup experience?

Inspiring people to create more and discover a side of themselves they wouldn’t have otherwise. To play and touch and hold things and make technology a social experience rather than an insular one. To open up photography and the art of making photos to anyone with a phone in their hand. To work with a small team of passionate people who can make amazing things appear out of thin air.
