1960 PlateSigned
Deluxe edition/with documentation (see below)
Not Hand Signed or Numbered

Up for your consideration is a vintage Original Woodblock Engraving Plate Signed of Salvador Dali's "Divine Comedy, Paradise 16", (The Ancestor's Apparation) an unusual find from an vintage art portfolio. The Divine Comedy by Dante was one of Dali's most important projects and most time consuming as well. It took Dali almost 5 years to produce the 3,500 blocks needed for all the colors of all the works. The Woodcut was printed on BFK Rives paper, in 1960, in Paris, and by Les Heures Claires, Paris. The sheet measures 10 1/4" x 12 3/4". Image measures 7 1/4" x 9 1/2".

As you can see from the justification page of the portfolio, there were several editions within the overarching French edition. Most woodcuts were part of the standard edition, limited to 3,900. The earliest units of the print run were part of the deluxe editions (15, 150, 350 and 350 units). This woodcut was pulled directly from portfolio #343. So, the woodcut comes from the first of two editions of 350 units (covering portfolios 166-515). In addition to this woodcut being issued signed in the Plate, it is also verified to be one of earliest in the print run. It's industry wisdom that collectors should acquire prints early in the edition because quality is best early on. We will provide our documentation on providence and other information about the work in the form of a proof of identify (not COA).

It is a beautiful vintage Original woodcut that would look lovely hanging on one of your walls! (see other Original woodcut listings for those other walls or for gifts!)
